Our prison services

Dame Phyllis Frost Centre

Forensicare provides forensic mental health services at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) for women which includes an outpatient program and the Marrmak unit, a custodial mental health unit.

Marrmak Unit

Within Marrmak Unit, Forensicare provides 24-hour intensive psychiatric care and treatment for women requiring intensive mental health support. Forensicare staff provide group and individual programs that are holistic, integrated and address multiple areas of need.

Outpatient Program

The Outpatient Program provides specialist mental health services to women prisoners requiring assessment and ongoing care while they remain accommodated in the mainstream prison. The program aims to prevent an exacerbation of symptoms that would ultimately require admission or readmission to Marrmak Unit. Group based and individual interventions are provided within the program.

Melbourne Assessment Prison

Forensicare provides 24 hours a day, seven-days a week, specialist mental health service at the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP). A wide range of services are provided to meet the often complex needs of prisoners arriving at the prison, the primary reception prison for men in Victoria.

Reception Assessment

Acute Assessment Unit

A 16-bed short stay assessment unit is provided for prisoners thought to be mentally ill and/or at risk. The multi-disciplinary staff in the unit provide psychiatric assessments and a range of short-term interventions and support. The assessments are used to determine future treatment needs. Prisoner participation in the services provided within the Acute Assessment Unit is voluntary.
