Nursing Mental Health Transition to Practice program

The Nursing Mental Health Transition to Practice program is an integral part of Forensicare in our commitment to develop our future workforce. The structured program incorporates clinical experience, education and support with post-graduate qualifications to assist Registered Nurses to develop core skills as a mental health nurse.

This 12-month program supports Registered Nurses looking to transition into Mental Health Nursing. During the program you will get opportunity to work across various clinical areas, supported by a clinical nurse educator, in addition to allocated education days and study leave.

If you are Registered Nurse who wants to pursue a career in this specialist area of mental health nursing, this program offers a pathway to prepare you for ongoing employment opportunities in mental health nursing.

About the program

  • Extensive orientation program including an introduction to our Model of Care, an understanding of working in an interdisciplinary team and working with the Lived Experience Team
  • Health and wellbeing support, including access to employee assistance and wellness programs.
  • Part-time study leave to complete the Graduate Diploma in Mental Health.
  • Support from the Early Career Graduate Nurse Program Coordinator designated to the wellbeing and success of graduates.

What You’ll Do

  • You will be working rostered shifts, including a rotation on night shift
  • Activities, education sessions, workshops and supernumerary time to support your transition into the forensic mental health environment.

Eligibility

  • Preferable 2-years’ experience working as a Registered Nurse.
  • A commitment to work towards a specialist mental health qualification
