Frequently asked questions

What allied health experience do I need to work at Forensicare?

Working at Forensicare as an allied health professional requires a mix of clinical expertise, risk assessment skills, and knowledge of the legal and criminal justice systems. The specific experience needed depends on your discipline. Prior experience in general mental health is a good foundation in order to understand interdisciplinary working, engaging with complex and high-risk scenarios as well as contributing towards the core needs of the consumer, families and carers.

What does a typical day look like for an allied health worker at Forensicare?

This would depend upon your discipline and what area of the service you are based. For example, as a speech pathologist you may focus on communication and cognitive assessments, for a Dietitian the work could be the impact of nutrition on the social determinants of health, and for a creative therapist, utilising other modalities of treatment to engage consumers in therapeutic interventions.

I don’t have qualifications in allied health. Can I still apply?

There are many support roles that can be used as an avenue to understand the broader term of allied health and what disciplines are associated with this. These can be divided into both scientific and therapeutic professions. There are currently 27 different allied health professions, all of which require tertiary qualifications therefore a starting point may be as an allied health assistant or mental health officer.

What support, supervision and professional development would I receive?

As an organisation, formal supervision is provided, and frequency depends upon your years of experience and the governance structure outlined for the respective allied health discipline as the expectation can vary depending upon the requirements of your governing body.

I am a student. Do you have a student placement program?

Student placements are available and provided in the form of clinical and project placements. Depending upon the discipline, placements can vary. For example, occupational therapy only accept third and fourth year students. For a course such as creative therapies, we can take a student at any time and for a period of approximately 10 months.
